A powerful and compelling drama from the creators of Facing the Giants, Fireproof, and Courageous, will be released in theaters across the nation on Aug. 28.

War Room combines humor, heart, and a gripping message on the power that prayer can have on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and other areas of life.

The movie traces the story of Tony and Elizabeth Jordan who have it all -- great jobs, a beautiful daughter, and their dream house. Yet Tony and Elizabeth's world is crumbling under the strain of a failing marriage. In the midst of this, their lives take an unexpected turn when Elizabeth meets her newest client, Miss Clara, and is challenged to establish a "war room" and a battle plan of prayer for her family. Amazing things begin to happen as Elizabeth learns the secret of the prayer closet.

"War Room is all about finding that secret place of close communion with God on a regular basis," says John Maempa, director of the AG Office of Prayer and Spiritual Care. "Establishing a deep intimacy with God in prayer is so baseline to all we are about as followers of Jesus Christ. It is important to vitality and victory in our spiritual life. It is crucial to our survival as believers and as the church, particularly as we face increasing challenges to our faith by the culture around us."

The motion picture is produced by pastor brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick. They explain their rationale for the Provident Film picture here.

"I was privileged to view a screening of the movie early this year," Maempa says. "It has had a profound impact on my prayer life personally. I urge every Christ follower to see it."

Through their Georgia-based company Provident Films, the last two offerings by the Kendrick brothers became among the most popular Christian movies of all time. Courageous in 2011 garnered $34.5 million in domestic box-office receipts while Fireproof in 2008 made $33.4 million.
