Rick DuBose Elected New General Treasurer

North Texas District superintendent succeeds Doug Clay in post. Terry Yancey fills final EP spot.

Assemblies of God General Council delegates Thursday afternoon elected North Texas District Superintendent Rick DuBose as the Fellowship’s new general treasurer, replacing Douglas E. Clay, who has been elevated to general superintendent.

Before being catapulted to general superintendent, Clay had been scheduled to run unopposed for another four-year term as treasurer. With the sudden vacancy of the office, the nearly 300 members of General Presbytery at the biennial convention gathered Wednesday night, and ratified four new nominees for delegates to consider Thursday in a GC business meeting in Anaheim, California.

In addition to DuBose, other candidates were Jay Herndon, secretary-treasurer of the Northern California & Nevada District since 2005; Rick Ross, who took over as North Carolina District http://ncag.org/ superintendent last year; and Randy Valimont, lead pastor of Griffin First Assembly in Georgia since 1993.

Valimont asked that his name be dropped from consideration Thursday morning before balloting began.

Rick DuBose has been North Texas District superintendent since 2007, a district executive presbyter since 2003, and an AG general presbyter since 2005. He also serves as chairman of the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Board of Regents. DuBose began leading NorthPlace Church in Sachse, Texas, with 17 people, and the church grew to 1,000 attendees by the time he left in 2005 to become district assistant superintendent.

General Superintendent George O. Wood called DuBose and his wife, Rita, to the stage, after the announcement of the result.

DuBose indicated he struggled whether to allow his name to stand for the election because he is so tied to North Texas, but said the Lord assured him that He has a plan. DuBose said he is up to learning the process and culture of the national office.

“I’ve never considered myself very good at very much,” DuBose said. “But the anointing of the Lord makes a difference.”

DuBose will become one of the six members of the AG Executive Leadership Team in Springfield, Missouri.

The election of DuBose precipitated another election for an executive presbyter position. On Wednesday, DuBose was elected from a field of a dozen candidates as the new EP for the South Central Area, replacing the retiring J. Don George.

However, with DuBose’s elevation to AG general treasurer, delegates needed to vote anew for the next South Central Area EP.

After two rounds of balloting, attendees elected Kansas Ministry Network Superintendent Terry L. Yancey as the new EP. Yancey has been a general presbyter since 1999, the same year he became district superintendent in Kansas at the age of 39. He earlier spent five years as youth director and Christian education director for the district, as well as and nine years in pastoral ministry.

Yancey has been married to his wife, Karen, for 39 years, and the couple have three children involved in pastoral ministry.

“I’ve only known the Assemblies of God,” Yancey told the audience. “Karen and I are all in.”
