Evangel University Receives Multimillion-Dollar Legacy Gift

Robert and Sandra Graper gifted $5.6 million from their estate to Evangel University.
Evangel University recently received a $5.6 million legacy gift from the estate of Robert and Sandra Graper, longtime supporters with a personal connection. Four of the Graper’s six children attended Evangel in Springfield, Missouri.

Robert, a US Air Force veteran of the Korean War conflict, was a businessman who served for 36 years with Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co. He passed away in April of 2021 and his wife, Sandra, passed away this June.

“This precious couple exemplifies the principle of stewardship, living frugally throughout their vocational journey so they could honor the Lord,” said Mike Rakes, Evangel University president. “Their generosity creates a lasting impact as Evangel moves into the future, and we honor their investment to us.”

The Grapers were well-known for their generous contributions to churches, missionaries, charitable organizations, and nonprofits, as well as higher education institutions. They were consistent supporters of Evangel due to their passion for Christian education and appreciation for the experiences of their daughters.

“We are so grateful for the longtime commitment of the Graper family to Evangel,” said Destiny Deas, EU vice president of advancement. “Because of their legacy, many more generations of students will have the opportunity to find their callings and receive vocational training in the Christ-centered environment that Evangel provides.”

The Grapers’ gift will accelerate a variety of initiatives to further the mission of Evangel University.
