AG Continues Streak of Opening More than 300 New Churches a Year

For the sixth consecutive year, the Assemblies of God has opened more than 300 new churches in the United States. The AG General Secretary’s office reports that 326 new AG churches opened in 2015, continuing the streak that began in 2010 when 325 new churches opened. 

The Assemblies of God now has a total of 12,897 churches in the United States, the highest total on record for the AG.

“2015 was a great year for church planting in the Assemblies of God,” states Chris Railey, senior director of Church Multiplication Network (CMN). “Over the past year, new faith communities have started in every part of the country from coast to coast.” 

Dr. George O. Wood, AG general superintendent, states, “It’s a joy to see new churches coming online by the hundreds each year,” he says. “My prayer is that every church, no matter its size or age, makes church planting a part of its DNA, whether planting a new work on their own or in partnership with another AG church or ministry. In the past eight years, 2,592 new churches have been planted. Another way to put it, 17 percent of present USA AG churches did not exist nine years ago. Praise be to the Lord for a new generation of Spirit-filled and dedicated church planters!” 

CMN partners with many new church plants, Railey says, and AGTrust also plays a key role. 

“As we strive to see a healthy church in every community, the Church Multiplication Network is focused on equipping these church planters with the tools they need to be successful,” Riley says. “Through a close partnership with the Assemblies of God Trust we are also able to provide funding to many of these new churches as they opened their doors this past year.” 

Railey says he’s encouraged about the future of AG church planting and the growing network of individuals, districts, and ministries passionate about planting churches. 

“We celebrate what God did in 2015,” he says, “but we know our job isn’t done. We are looking forward to working with church planters and district leaders to plant even more churches this year!"
