UPDATE: Suspected Gunman, Kyle Odom, is Apprehended in Washington, D.C.
Kyle Odom, the man accused of shooting AG minister Tim Remington six times in the back on Sunday, March 6, in Idaho, was captured without incident Tuesday evening by Secret Service agents in Washington, D.C., after reportedly throwing “suspicious objects” over the south fence of the White House.
According Coeur d'Alene Police Chief Lee White, after the shooting, Odom drove approximately 400 miles from Coeur d'Alene to Boise, Idaho. He would later board a commercial airline in Boise and fly to Washington, D.C., on Monday.
John Padula, outreach pastor for The Altar Church, where Remington is lead pastor, emailed PE News Tuesday evening, stating simply: “Kyle has been apprehended in Washington, D.C. — it was without incident and he is safe! Pray for his salvation.”
Padula earlier mentioned that Odom had been seen “hanging around the church” for several days before the shooting took place and had even attended services that Sunday morning. However, due to the nature of the Good Samaritan Rehabilitation ministry whose residents attend The Altar Church, that kind of activity isn’t viewed as out of the ordinary by staff.
Remington is making progress in his recovery and is in stable condition at the Kootenai Health and Medical Center. Police Chief White also indicated that according to documents (described as a "manifesto") Odom sent to news agencies and his parents, it now appears the shooting of Remington was not a random act and another church member — Outreach Pastor John Padula — was also a target.
Following is a statement from the family of Kyle Odom: "We are thankful for the safe apprehension of our son Kyle. As Kyle was not living with us, we are learning of his plans as they are being revealed by the police. We are truly thankful to God he is safe and no one else has been injured. Please respect our family's privacy at this difficult time."
