Helping Kids Understand and Experience the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

A Christian witness or a Christian watching? It’s the difference the power of the Holy Spirit can make in a Christian’s life. Recently, Gospel Publishing House made sure that future generations of Assemblies of God children are empowered to witness and can understand and experience what Pentecost is all about with the release of Now What? For Kids: Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

AG General Superintendent Doug Clay has articulated a clear vision for biblical literacy. It is his desire that the Bible be read, understood, and then applied. He says, "I want every AG adherent to read it, speak it, and live it."

Now What? For Kids: Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a 30-page booklet that walks kids through the questions surrounding the baptism in Holy Spirit and how to experience the Baptism. Following accepting Christ as their Savior, many children don’t realize the importance of taking the next step of seeking the infilling of the Holy Spirit. But this booklet, designed for children to read with an adult, answers key questions

“What I like about this kid-friendly booklet is how it simply and clearly explains the who, what, why, and hows surrounding the baptism in the Holy Spirit,” says Patti Chapman, Children’s Ministries Leadership Development coordinator. “Even more, it explains how the Baptism gives you the courage to witness and then the booklet encourages children to do so in how they live and what they say.”

The idea for the baptism in the Holy Spirit booklet began when Now What? For Kids: Salvation was being updated with a new look. Children’s Ministries Director Mark Entzminger wanted to add a section on the Holy Spirit baptism to help kids continue their growth in their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. A separate booklet resulted.

Chapman says that the new Holy Spirit booklet was well received by children’s ministers and workers at the AG Kidmin Conference in April, where preview copies were offered. This is the first time a booklet specifically on the baptism in the Holy Spirit for children has been made available.

The Holy Spirit baptism and the salvation booklets have a similar look and feel and are also available in Spanish.

Now What?, a 40-page booklet for adults covering what to do following salvation, is a perennial top seller for My Healthy Church. Currently, a revised edition of Now What? is available in English and Spanish and a new Now What? Baptism in the Holy Spirit for adults is in production.
