Devotional Focus: Winning the Lost for Christ

“Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:22, ESV).

In the midst of the great Pentecostal outpouring around the turn of the 20th century, many Christians who had experienced the baptism in the Holy Spirit immediately sensed an urgency to take the gospel to all the world. Stories have been recorded of early missionaries embarking on their own without the aid of missions organizations. Some packed their possessions in caskets believing that they would invest their entire lives on foreign soil, reaching people for Christ. Others also concluded that since various nationalities heard the disciples speak in their languages on the Day of Pentecost, they would be able to speak whatever language was necessary upon arriving in a given land. Clearly there was need for teaching about the power and purpose of Pentecost, nonetheless these early Pentecostals were passionate about evangelizing the world!

While we now have access to clear, biblical teaching on the purpose of Pentecost and strategies for world evangelism, may we never lose the passion to win the lost for Christ. May that passion move us to share our faith across the backyard fence or in a faraway land. The mission field is everywhere; it is all around us. As Isaiah declared, the gospel of salvation is intended for “all the ends of the earth.”

There is only one God; there is no other. But In our pluralistic world where so many deities are worshiped, people will know only as we tell them.
