Professor Honored
Vanguard University and the school's Department of Religion have announced the presentation of the Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS) Lifetime Achievement Award to Frank D. Macchia. Macchia is professor of theology at Vanguard University, where he has been a resident faculty member since 1999.
The SPS, an international group of scholars, annually grants a Lifetime Achievement Award to a person who has considerably contributed his or her career to research and writing. The award recognizes Macchia's contributions to the academy as a Pentecostal scholar. His books include, Baptized in the Spirit: A Global Pentecostal Theology, Justified in the Spirit: Creation, Redemption, and the Triune God , and The Trinity Practically Speaking .
"This is the highest honor that a scholar working in Pentecostal or Charismatic studies can receive, so I am naturally moved by this honor," says Macchia, who teaches theology and church history courses at Vanguard in both the graduate and undergraduate programs.
One of Macchia's achievements is serving as senior editor of Pneuma: The Journal of the Society for Pentecostal Studies for more than a decade. He also has presented more than 80 articles in various peer-reviewed journals and professional papers. His work has been presented in meetings for the SPS, the American Academy of Religion, the Society of Biblical Literature, among others.
International venues such as the International Reformed-Pentecostal Dialogue, the Conference on the Globalization of Pentecostalism, the Pentecostal/Roman Catholic Dialogue, and the European Pentecostal/Charismatic Research Association also have featured Macchia's work in religion.
Macchia has contributed chapters in over 20 books. His entries can be found in some of the most widely used resources in biblical studies - Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception, Zondervan Dictionary of Christian Spirituality, Cambridge Dictionary of Christianity, Dictionary of Ecumenical Movements , the New International Dictionary of Pentecostal and Charismatic Movements , and the Encyclopedia of Pentecostal and Charismatic Christianity .
In addition to his groundbreaking written work and ongoing contributions as a professor at Vanguard University, Macchia has ministered for the past 14 years as assistant pastor of a Taiwanese congregation in Irvine, California.
