Art Party
The annual Nationwide Sleepover event for Assemblies of God Girls Ministries is scheduled for Friday night and Saturday. The Nationwide Sleepover provides an opportunity for girls to invite friends to an activity to kick off the school year for elementary-age clubs.
During the event, the national Girls Ministries office will be hosting a live webcast through its website Friday evening. The webcast will feature Word Records artist Blanca, who will be giving a special shout-out to the girls.
"Sleepover isn't just about women and girls getting together for a time of fun," says Mandy Groot, National Girls Ministries director. "It provides a wonderful occasion for women to invest in girls."
This year's Sleepover theme is Art Party, with Psalm 193:17-18 as the foundational verse: "How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can't even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!" (New Living Translation)
As women spend time with girls creating their works of art, they will communicate to the girls that they are God's work of art created to reflect Him, Groot says.
"The Art Party Sleepover is a perfect time to discover how uniquely we have been created and to embrace the fun it is to be a girl!" Groot says.
Coins for Kids is the missions focus of Girls Ministries, which partners with Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge to raise money for a selected project each year.
The theme for each year's Sleepover corresponds with the Coins for Kids project. This year's project is Uttam's Place, an afterschool program for girls located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This ministry helps girls journey from life in the slums to college graduation with caring, Christian women investing in their lives, helping make Psalm 193:17-18 a reality.
Groot says the Nationwide Sleepover is an event churches can use to reach girls in the community, invest in the girls of local congregations, and affect change in the lives of girls in Bangladesh. More information may be found at http://ngmevents.ag.org/.
