AGTrust Presents 2016 Ralph Riggs Scholarships

AGTrust recently awarded scholarships to 10 students who are attending AG colleges this fall.

Ralph Riggs Scholarships, one of four scholarship/grant programs sponsored by the Assemblies of God Trust, are awarded annually to a select number of high school graduates planning to attend Assemblies of God colleges and universities. Recipients are selected by the Alliance for AG Higher Education Committee based on outstanding academic merit; exemplary school, community and church service; and personal references.

The $5,000 Ralph Riggs Scholarship is named for former Assemblies of God General Superintendent Ralph M. Riggs, an early advocate for higher education in the Fellowship, and is annually awarded to eight students. The two General Superintendent’s $30,000 scholarships are distributed over a four-year period.

Dr. George O. Wood, AG general superintendent and AGTrust chairman, states, “Training young leaders for ministry in the pulpit and the marketplace is one of AGTrust’s major initiatives to help make sure our AG Fellowship is strong and healthy for future generations.”

Following is the complete list of 2016 Ralph Riggs Scholarship recipients.

Jalen Gifford — Dodge City, Kansas; Evangel University; Springfield, Missouri

"God has given me a passion to capture stories and emotion through the lens of a camera — the art of filmmaking,” Gifford says, “and I look at that industry as a mission field. I believe attending an Assemblies of God university will give me the opportunity to grow spiritually while gaining the skills to become an influential filmmaker."

Abigail Roy — Mansfield, Missouri; Evangel University; Springfield, Missouri

A participant in the AG National Fine Arts program, Roy also serves as the leader of worship and drama ministry at her church. In high school, she was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Abigail plans to study Marketing/ Finance or Business Administration at Evangel.

“I have been blessed to serve as Abby’s pastor since she was nine years old,” says Pastor Jerry Orf of Mansfield First Assembly. “I have seen her grow in her faith and use her leadership skills to lead other youth into a deeper walk with the Lord.”
