Call to Prayer Issued for 9/11

In a year which marks the 15^th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, is a presidential election year, and has seen tens of thousands in America alone struggle from the results of natural disasters, General Superintendent George O. Wood is calling Assemblies of God churches to join with thousands of other churches to a time of prayer on Sunday, Sept. 11^th.

In a written appeal to AG ministers, Dr. Wood states, “I am asking Assemblies of God churches to either dedicate your Sunday, 9/11 morning worship services to praying for America or dedicate 11 minutes in your 9/11 morning worship services to praying for America.” 

Already in 2016, the United States and the world has witnessed an intensifying of global terrorism, increasing violence within cities, a growing revelation of the extent of human trafficking, and increased political, physical, and spiritual attacks on the Church worldwide. 

“Our world needs God and God’s people to pray and show compassionate care,” Wood says. 

Churches are urged to make prayer the priority for Sept. 11, with resources being made available through Awakening America. Churches choosing to participate in the call to prayer are encouraged to register as a 9/11 prayer location. 

In an adapted article posted by Kay Horner, the executive director of Awakening America, she states, “As a people of faith, many followers of Christ would love to see prayer become part of our schools in America again. But I would suggest we first bring prayer back into the churches of America.” 

Some of the other denominations participating in the 9/11 Call to Prayer include: Southern Baptist, International Foursquare Church, the Church of God of Prophecy, Church of God Anderson Indiana, and the Church of God Cleveland, Tennessee. 

In addition, the 40,118 churches of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference as well as the Pentecostal Charismatic Churches of North America, representing more than 30 denominational groups, have been issued this call to pray. 

“God’s people are beginning to come to a point of hungry desperation for a move of God,” Horner says. “Prayer is foundational if we are going to experience revival and a Christ awakening in this nation!”
