AG World Missions Announces New Academic Scholarship
AG World Missions has established the Eddie and Ruth Washington Scholarship intended to aid Black students in pursuing careers as AGWM missionaries.
In recognition of missionaries Eddie and Ruth Washington, the Assemblies of God World Missions has announced a scholarship established in their honor to assist Black students who intend to or are studying in the field of missions to prepare for service as AGWM missionaries. The Washingtons, who were both accomplished musicians, served in Europe and ministered around the world as missionaries for 30 years before retiring in 1993. “In addition to their dedicated and fruitful ministry service,” an AGWM release observed, “Eddie and Ruth Washington were among the most prominent and faithful Black missionaries to have served with AGWM.”
The scholarship awards will be up to $5,000 per academic year and be given to select Black students who meet the criteria of the scholarship, which include, but are not limited to: Have a viable ministry, intend or have direction toward serving as an AGWM missionary, have a minimum GPA of 2.50, will be attending a college or university affiliated with or endorsed by the Alliance for AG Higher Education, as well as other requirements (click here for all eligibility requirements and the application process).
“I am excited that AGWM can offer this scholarship to deserving Black students,” states Greg Mundis, executive director of AGWM. “Almost half of our Fellowship is non-Anglo, yet our missionary body does not reflect that diversity. The Eddie and Ruth Washington Scholarship is an important step in welcoming all whom God will call into missionary service.”
The scholarship funds, which are payable directly to the college or university, can be used for a wide variety of college-related expenses, including tuition, required books, fees, supplies, room and board, and other related college living expenses.
