Ways to Pray for Your Pastor
October is Ministers Appreciation Month. Here are five ways we should pray for our pastors.
Anointing and Boldness. Pray for an anointing of the Holy Spirit on your pastor and boldness to proclaim God’s word.“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor” (Isaiah 61:1).
Biblical Fidelity and Integrity. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your pastor to rightly interpret the Bible and faithfully proclaim and live its truths.
“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers” (1 Timothy 4:16).
Marriage and Family. Ask the Lord to guard your pastor’s family, overshadowing them with His peace and presence, and sustaining them through the challenges of life and ministry.
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:1,2).
Strength and Health. Ask the Lord to give your minister good health, daily strength, and grace to face every challenge.
“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word” (2 Thessalonians 2:16,17).
Wisdom and Protection. Pray your minister will be given wisdom and kept from spiritual downfall and all attacks by the enemy.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:10-12).
Along with focused prayer, now is a good time to meaningfully express gratitude to your pastors and their families for the many ways they sacrifice and serve.
