Convoy of Hope’s U.S. Disaster Services Team responded to historic flooding in the Midwest over the weekend. Convoy, the Assemblies of God partner in compassion ministry, sent two truckloads of water to Nebraska on Saturday and two more truckloads on Monday.

More than 150,000 pounds of bottled water will be distributed in multiple communities throughout Nebraska. Fresh drinking water continues to be the number-one need due to compromised waters systems.

In addition, Convoy of Hope’s International Disaster Services team deployed Monday from Springfield, Missouri, headed to Malawi and Mozambique in response to Cyclone Idai. Once there, they will meet with area partners to assess the situation and further develop their response strategy. Convoy will bring water filtration systems and solar lanterns to distribute to families and communities in need.

“It is not uncommon for Convoy of Hope to respond to multiple disasters at the same time,” says Jeff Nene, Convoy of Hope’s national spokesperson. “Unfortunately, we cannot predict when a disaster will hit, but we are prepared to respond and fulfill immediate needs when possible — even when it stretches our team and resources.”
