"Jesus is Going to Set You Free Today"

When John* walked into the room where Sara* was sitting, he thought someone had beaten her. She was covered with bruises and staring blankly into space. But her father told John she had been beating herself, punishing herself for almost strangling her 3-year-old son in a demonic fit. Relatives had intervened and saved the boy in time, but then sent Sara back to her parents' home.

Sara had been demon possessed for 13 years and had three failed marriages. She would often climb up on the roof, screaming and cursing at anyone walking by.

In desperation her parents had reached out to our Roma friend John, whom they heard about from Roma believers in their city. John agreed to come pray for Sara. On the way, he asked two other believers to accompany him, although they really didn't want to go. John didn't give them a choice — they were going!

When they arrived, John asked Sara what her name was. She wouldn't answer and would only stare back at him in frenzied silence.

John said, "Jesus is going to set you free today." In a deep, inhuman voice that sounded as if a whole choir were speaking, the spirits inside Sara snarled, "No, she's ours; she belongs to us. She's cursed."

John began to speak of the power of the blood of Jesus. The demons reacted, convulsing Sara's body. John felt the power of the Holy Spirit come on him, and he placed his hand on Sara and began praying forcefully in a spiritual language. The demons pressed Sara back against the wall. John prayed in the Spirit for just a few seconds, and suddenly Sara crumpled to the floor.

When she opened her eyes, she looked at her father and said, "Papa, I'm free." Sara began kissing her father with tears of joy, saying, "Papa, I haven't kissed you for 13 years!" She began to jump up and down shouting, "I'm free! I'm free!"

Sara’s parents wept, her husband was speechless. John also wept. Other relatives in the room exclaimed, "It's a fairy tale! No one could help her for 13 years!" Sara's father and mother fell at John’s feet, trying to kiss his hands. Others offered him money.

With great joy, John explained, "Don't kiss my hands. I cannot take your money. It is Jesus who set Sara free. Worship Him!"

The two believers who were with John went home that day completely amazed. They realized that advancing the kingdom of God is what life is all about.

A few days later John and the other believers returned to Sara’s parents’ house. They found nearly 30 relatives assembled, ready to hear the gospel. Many gave their lives to Christ that day.

Word about this event is spreading throughout the Roma communities in this region. John now has people calling him and showing up at his door nearly every day, hungry to learn about this Jesus who did such a wonderful miracle.

And John shares the message of Christ with every single one of them.
