Haiti: Stand with the Suffering

As Haiti reels under yet another disaster, AG World Missions responds.
(Article updated with new statistics on Aug. 19, 2021)

On Saturday, Aug. 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in Haiti ended the lives of more than 2,100 people and injured more than 12,000 others. Hundreds of people are reported as still missing.

Nearly 14,000 homes are reported destroyed, and with as many more being severely damaged, leaving tens of thousands homeless.

Tropical Storm Grace struck the island nation on Tuesday, bringing heavy rains that have tremendously interrupted rescue efforts.

These natural disasters compound the suffering and instability caused by the assassination of Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moïse, on July 7.

Believers from within the Haiti Assemblies of God are among those who have lost their lives in this disaster, and many more are impacted by loss of property, family members, and basic necessities.

AGWM leadership, including Latin America Caribbean regional director David Ellis, call for brothers and sisters worldwide to stand steadfastly in prayer with this suffering nation, and to respond with practical assistance.

On Monday, David Ellis spoke with Rev. Calixte Fleuridor, president of the Haiti AG, to begin coordinating relief efforts.

AGWM partner Convoy of Hope is already shipping supplies (including tarps for temporary shelter for those left homeless) by land, sea and air to the areas of greatest need.
