Churches Urged to Participate in National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer Task Force has events planned in hundreds of cities across the United States.
AG congregations are encouraged to join with tens of thousands of Christians across the United States and even around the world in recognizing and participating in National Day of Prayer (NDP) events on Thursday, May 5.

The NDP, which is entering its 70th year as an official annually recognized day of prayer, offers hundreds of local NDP Task Force events in all 50 states and some U.S. territories for those who desire to see the nation turn to God, exalt the Lord, and hear messages and prayers in the name of Jesus Christ.

“As one observes the spiritual state of America in this hour, the need for prayer is imperative,” states Joe Oden, national prayer and evangelism director for the AG. “It’s my opinion that the only hope for the United States is for the church to bend her knees once again and cry out to God for an awakening. The National Day of Prayer is a great place to start.”

In addition to the local NDP Task Force events, the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., will host the National Day of Prayer Broadcast, which can be viewed on multiple stations (GodTV, Daystar, Salem, Bott, and Moody Radio networks) and social media platforms beginning at 8 p.m. (ET) on May 5.

“Our praise of His unchanging attributes and remembrance of His blessings has helped Americans remain steadfast in faith even through the most challenging of times,” stated NDP Task Force President Kathy Branzell in a release. “Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that we do not waver today in this practice of praise and expressions of faith, love, and thanks as we unite in prayer across America on this National Day of Prayer.”

This year’s NDP theme is “Exalt the Lord Who Has Established Us.” The theme is taken from the 2022 NDP theme verse, Colossians 2:6-7: “Therefore, as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude” (NASB).

Some of the guests appearing on the NDP broadcast include Ed Young, Anne Graham-Lotz, Ronnie Floyd, and Joni Eareckson Tada, among others.
