Evangel Announces Strategic Partnership with Focus on the Family
Evangel University and Focus on the Family are partnering to provide credited, online training for counselors working with married couples in crisis.
Evangel University recently partnered with Focus on the Family (FOTF) to develop and design the Focus Marriage Model Introductory Online Workshop. This workshop will provide continuing education credits to psychologists, licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, and licensed marriage and family therapists. This offering is FOTF’s first digitally-delivered training and is hosted in Canvas, Evangel’s learning management system.“The partnership between Evangel and Focus on the Family has enormous potential to train competent marriage counselors around the world and highlight EU as a strategic partner in that training,” said Emily Johns, Evangel’s director of digital learning.
The introductory workshop supports FOTF’s Marriage Institute and serves as a feeder for the institute’s Focus Marital Therapy Training and Certification program, a year-long online course. The goal of the institute and its related programs is to work with married couples in crisis.
Evangel’s Digital Learning team designed the workshop materials in conjunction with Bob Paul, vice president of the FOTF Marriage Institute and a licensed professional counselor, and Robert Burbee, a licensed psychologist. Both are alums of the Springfield, Missouri, university.
“We are proud of this innovative workshop and celebrate our partnership with Focus on the Family,” said Mark Fabian, director of strategic partnerships at Evangel. “Through this new offering, we are helping to equip Christians who serve as licensed professional counselors in their efforts to restore marriages and families and meet the mental health needs of communities across the nation.”
