Prayer for the Incoming Administration

General Superintendent Doug Clay suggests ways to pray for President Donald Trump and his administration.

In his 1981 inaugural address, Ronald Reagan famously noted, “In the eyes of many in the world, this every-four-year ceremony we accept as normal is nothing less than a miracle.” As we follow the events of the inauguration, it’s important to remember our divine prerogative to pray for our leaders. Join me in prayer today for our nation and for the incoming leaders at a local, state, and national level.

PRAY FOR WISDOM
“Without wise leadership, a nation falls; there is safety in having many advisers” (Proverbs 11:14, NLT).

Let’s pray for wisdom for our leaders at every level of government. May the President and the incoming cabinet seek out wise advice and learn to depend on the Holy Spirit for guidance.

PRAY FOR PROTECTION
“This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him” (Psalm 91:2, NLT).

Join me in prayer for the protection and safety for those serving in government. May they place their trust in God and may He protect them. In a country that is divided politically, may those differences not lead to violence or bloodshed. May we also pray that our leaders will be protected from evil influence, greed, and pride.

PRAY FOR PEACE
“Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity” (1 Timothy 2:2, NLT).

Pray that our leaders will pursue peace and be marked as peacemakers in their own lives. In both domestic politics and in global affairs, we pray that the leaders in the incoming administration will pursue peace and not strife.

PRAY FOR COURAGE
“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13, NLT).

Pray that the incoming President and Cabinet will have the courage to do what is right in God’s eyes without regard to popular opinion. May the Lord guide them and give them the strength to make decisions that will glorify God.

PRAY FOR REVIVAL
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NLT).

May we be reminded that revival does not come through any political party, leader, or law. Revival comes as a result of coming before God humbly in repentance. May we pray for humility, repentance, and revival throughout our nation.
