Ways to Pray for Minneapolis
Recent events in Minneapolis have been marked by significant tension around immigration enforcement, disruptions to worship services, debates over religious liberty, and compassion for migrants. In this season, your prayers can be targeted, fervent, and Kingdom-focused.
I’ve asked ministers throughout the Minneapolis area how we can support them with our prayers during this time of unrest.
1. Protection and peace for churches as sacred spaces.
Pray that houses of worship remain places of refuge, spiritual transformation, and undisturbed biblical teaching. Ask God to guard congregations from intimidation, disruption, or fear.
Scripture guide: Psalm 91; Psalm 122:6-7
“Pray that all involved would be physically safe.”
— Derrick Ross, lead pastor, Celebration Church
“Pray against any demonstrations this weekend and that the DOJ would put a stop to the religious intimidation and harassment.”
— Rob Ketterling, lead pastor, River Valley Church
“Peace over fear and anxiety for everyone.”
— Teng Vu, president, AG National Hmong Fellowship
2. Unity and wisdom for Minnesota's church leaders
Pray for pastors, elders, and denominational leaders to receive divine wisdom in navigating political, social, and moral tensions—including immigration, justice issues, and accusations of nationalism. Pray for courage to preach truth in love, without fear or compromise.
Scripture guide: James 1:5; Ephesians 4:1-3
“Pray for wisdom for leaders. Pray for congregations to stay united because this is dividing us.”
— Pastor Rob Ketterling, lead pastor, River Valley Church
“Pray that the people of God would not give in to division and lose sight of our eternal mission.”
— Derrick Ross, lead pastor, Celebration Church
“Wisdom and discernment for pastors and leaders. I feel like most leaders are just kind of frozen and aren't sure what to do.”
— Teng Vu, president, AG National Hmong Fellowship
3. Compassion, justice, and reconciliation amid immigration tensions
Pray for mercy toward migrant families and communities affected by enforcement actions. Ask God for protection of the vulnerable while upholding just laws—and for churches to model Christ's love in caring for the stranger (Matthew 25:35-40). Pray against division, hatred, or violence in these conflicts.
Scripture guide: Micah 6:8; Romans 12:18
“To recognize immigrants as valued individuals who add to the well-being and advancement of our society in the United States.”
— Vicente Perez, president, Confraternidad de Pastores Unidos
“Prayer for ICE agents to act lawfully, treat people with dignity, and work diligently so innocent civilians or U.S. citizens are not wrongly detained.”
— Teng Vu, president, AG National Hmong Fellowship
4. Strength and perseverance for believers facing challenges
Pray for the Christian community in Minnesota to stand firm in faith amid cultural pressures, potential trauma from events, or discouragement. Ask for joy, hope, and community support.
Scripture guide: Ephesians 6:10-18; Hebrews 12:1-3
“Pray that people would remain anchored in Christ, instead of which side of the issue their politics falls on.”
— Derrick Ross, lead pastor, Celebration Church
“Unity, protection, and trust. There’s just been a lot of division within the news, social media, and families and even Christian families.”
— Teng Vu, president, AG National Hmong Fellowship
5. Government and societal leaders
Pray for Minnesota's officials (state, local, federal) to govern with righteousness, protect religious freedoms, and pursue policies that honor God and human dignity. Ask for truth to prevail in investigations and public discourse.

— Rob Ketterling, lead pastor, River Valley Church
“For laws that provide undocumented people (without criminal record) to find a way to achieve legal residency (not necessarily citizenship).”
— Vicente Perez, president, Confraternidad de Pastores Unidos
6. Revival, spiritual awakening, and effective witness
Pray for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit across Minnesota's churches—leading to genuine repentance, renewed passion for the gospel, and bold evangelism.
