Convoy Responds to Tornadoes in Tennessee

Following the tornado outbreak that devasted numerous cities in central Tennessee, damaging or destroying hundreds of buildings, killing at least 24 people, and injuring scores more Monday night, Convoy of Hope has quickly engaged to send relief supplies to victims of the disasters.

Convoy of Hope, the official relief organization partner for the Assemblies of God, has sent two truckloads of disaster relief supplies and has a point of distribution (POD) set up at Zeal Church in Nashville. According to Jessica Blake, Public Relations director for Convoy, the church will serve as a downtown POD and is currently serving people who were impacted by the tornadoes.

At this time, Convoy of Hope is moving the base of operations to the suburbs in Mount Juliet. “This will allow us to serve those impacted in more residential areas,” Blake states. “We are setting up a point of distribution at The Church at Pleasant Grove and will be there for several days.”

Another semi truck full of disaster relief supplies is leaving Convoy’s headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, today and a fourth will be en route tomorrow morning.

"We're working with multiple churches in the area to serve as many people as possible with disaster relief supplies," says Stacy Lamb, senior director of Convoy’s U.S. Disaster Services.
