Ways to Pray This Mother's Day
“I remember my mother's prayers, and they have always followed me.” – Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the U.S., reflected fondly on the impact of his godly mother, attributing much of his success to her prayers.
This Mother’s Day we remember the numerous ways moms show love to others and honor the countless sacrifices they make. As we recall the many prayers offered by her on our behalf, here, in turn, are eight ways to pray for mothers and other important women in our lives.
1. STRENGTH
Ask the Lord to give grace and strength, especially to mothers of young children.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak” (Isaiah 40:29).
2. WISDOM
Pray that God would give mothers wisdom as they care for their homes and give counsel to their families.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5).
3. SALVATION
Think about children or grandchildren, or even a mom, who has rejected Christ. Pray they will be convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent of their sins, and be saved.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
4. ENCOURAGEMENT
Ask God to help women who desire children, but are unable to have them. Pray for the Lord’s presence to overshadow them, comfort them, and give them grace.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18)
5. COURAGE
Pray that single moms or women married to unbelievers will experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit as they serve Jesus and point their children to Him.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
6. GRACE
Pray for grace and strength for those who care for aging and elderly mothers.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10)
7. COMFORT
Ask the Lord to comfort and minister to those whose mothers have died.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” (Matthew 5:4).
8. SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Ask God to help women abide in Christ and grow in their faith so that they will be an example of Christian virtue to those around them.
“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18)
